This exceptional Mercedes-Benz 300SL (R107) represents one of the very last right-hand-drive examples produced, leaving the Stuttgart factory at the very end of the model’s remarkable 18-year production run, the second longest in Mercedes-Benz history.
Supplied new by London Road Garage (Romford) Ltd, the car was first registered on 1st August 1989 to Mr P. Gardiner. Finished in the timeless combination of white coachwork with blue leather interior and matching blue soft top, it remains a beautifully presented and well-preserved example of this iconic Mercedes roadster.
Although modestly specified from new, the car was ordered with the rare rear seat option and retains one of the early factory in-car telephones, a fascinating and charming reminder of late-1980s automotive technology.
The car benefits from exceptional provenance, supported by the original stamped service book, extensive invoices, and a complete MOT history verifying the mileage.
In 2012, at approximately 70,000 miles, the car underwent restorative work commissioned by Miss J. Rex of Kent and carried out by The SL Shop, one of the UK’s leading specialists in R107 models. This work totalled nearly £9,000, with detailed invoices retained.
Further major restoration followed in 2017 at John Haynes Mercedes Specialist, where the car underwent significant mechanical and structural work including:
This work alone exceeded £13,000 and is fully documented with invoices and supporting photographs.
The vehicle later passed to Mr P. Clutton in Wales, who continued to maintain it to a high standard. In 2019, at 72,810 miles, the car received a full service at Mercedes-Benz Cardiff/Newport costing £1,909.
Across just 3,000 miles of driving, over £23,700 was invested in restoration and maintenance.
Purchased again in 2020 from a respected classic car dealership in Louth, the car has since covered only around 2,000 additional miles, continuing to perform exactly as a well-maintained R107 should.
Recent servicing includes:
The car drives superbly and requires nothing beyond routine servicing.
The car retains a comprehensive service record from new, including:
The car is supplied with two high-quality leather-bound folders containing:
This beautifully preserved late-production R107 300SL combines excellent provenance, extensive documented restoration, and very low mileage for its age.
Examples with this level of documented maintenance and investment are increasingly difficult to find, making this a fantastic opportunity to acquire a well-sorted and highly usable modern classic.
A rare chance to purchase a superb example from Mercedes-Benz’s golden era, offered at a sensible price.
